Martha Wells (born 1964 in Fort Worth, Texas) is an American fantasy author. Her 1st published novel, A Element of Fire (1993), was a finalist for that season's Compton Crook Award, and the runner-second best for the 1994 William Crawford Award; her third novel, Death of the Necromancer (1998), was nominated for a Nebula award, and has since been translated into little joe languages.
Wells is known for the complex, realistically-detailed societies she creates; this is typically credited to her academic background around anthropology.
